Barton Cricket Club

Week 7 Match Reports

After a washed out Week 6 for both teams, the seconds game at Cricketfield Road against Lewdown was conceded when Lewdown CC failed to raise a side and conceded 20 points on Friday. This allowed the First team some extra selection options.

The firsts travelled to Seaton CC with some new faces, and Bowks captaining the side. After losing the toss and being asked to bat, it soon became obvious that a big score was going to prove difficult to accumulate.

The openers succumbed early on and it fell to two of the newer faces to put on a stand to make the total defendable. S McKenna top-scored with 32, and Calum Moses 31 put on 60 for the 3rd wicket, with Needo (16) and Killer Martin (11) the only others to reach double figures. The Barton team were dismissed for 129 in just over 40 overs.

It was a game dominated by the bowlers and the Barton bowlers were eager to get to work!

Killer and Coley opened the attack, restricting the batsmen and taking a couple of quick wickets. The home side then stabilised somewhat and batted sensibly despite the best efforts of the bowlers and fielders, and despite wickets falling regularly

Seaton CC finally reached their target after 42 overs, for 8 wickets down. J Martin (3-24) and S McKenna(3-15) were the pick of the Barton bowling.

Skipper Bowks said ’...it was an absolute pleasure skippering you boys...today. Literally body’s on the line and fighting to the very end. A mighty close game, but just 20 runs short...’

Next week has the firsts hosting Thorverton CC at home, and the seconds away at Sandford CC
