Mixed results in Week 5
The Firsts hosted Abbotskerswell CC at Cricketfield road and despite bowling reasonably well, the visitors notched up 237 for 8 at the close of the innings. Jonny Martin being the pick of the Barton bowlers.
The Barton innings went from bad to worse after a shaky opening, with only Gilly (11) and Jon Martin (45) offering any resistance and reaching double figures. A bad day at the office was confirmed when Barton were bowled out for 102 - defeat by 135 runs.
A second defeat in a row is concerning but not the end of the world, as the imminent arrival of the Overseas player should help to shore up the batting order and put us back on track for a good second push.
The seconds travelled to Abbotskerswell CC and inflicted a big reverse on a local rival - doing to their seconds what Bartons firsts suffered. Skipper Shauny stuck with the Barton method and put the home side in to bat after winning the toss - and it proved to be a shrewd move. Cole Harford and Adrian Lipton had a great day with the ball finishing with 4-33 and 3-21 respectively. Abbotskerswell were dismissed for 94 in 32 overs (25 of which were wides!) and the Barton batsmen were keen for an early finish!
Hunty and Baz got the innings started and laid a solid platform before Hunty was dismissed for 20. Jarms then proceeded to smash the home side to all part, and when Baz was out for 22 with the total on 87, the games was all but won.
Jarms was out with the scores tied - for 37, which left Morgan Harford to finish the job with 28 overs left to bat. The first 20-pointer for the 2nds this year, and they made it back to the club to support the 1sts in their run chase.
Next Saturday sees the Firsts host Filleigh CC at Cricketfield Road, while the seconds travel to Plymstock CC
